Get To Know The Influencer Series

Hi loves. Your probably thinking where are the beauty posts right? I know I’m all about beauty but I wanted to add a little something different onto the blog. I’ve always wanted to interview some of my favourite people on youtube and those who may have blogs too.  So I went out of my way to do a little research, put some questions together and contact those that inspire me the most. I will be doing a series of these posts so you can discover somebody new to watch or learn more about those you do watch….

For todays 2nd Get To Know post I interviewed SCARLETT LONDON. Scarlett is a British full time blogger, a trained journalist and also has a youtube channel. I have watched Scarlett for the longest time and absolutely love how her content has such a large variety from beauty, fashion and travel. I believe Scarlett also hosts events for bloggers/influencers too and one of my “blogging” goals is to attend one of Scarletts’s events, they all look so lovely 🙂 I really want to attend one of her christmas ones so hoping theres one when were in London this year!! Lets hear more from Scarlett loves…

The Questions…

1. What Inspired you to begin your youtube channel/blog?

From the age of 13, I had dreams of being a writer or a journalist and so when I was applying for University courses aged 17, I decided to set up an online portfolio to showcase my writing skills to future employers and the university tutors. I had no idea it was even called a blog at the time – but then I discovered this amazing community of ‘bloggers’ and the rest is history. I loved having an outlet to express my love for the things I am passionate about. It’s still an amazing place to share my life and I love having it to look back on too, and see how far I’ve come! The YouTube was a natural progression into the realms of video but I’m still a newbie, I only started it last year

2. Name one beauty product you couldn’t live without?

I couldn’t live without the Makeup Forever HD Foundation Stick, it gives flawless coverage and having ‘my face on’, is one sure fire way to keeping disciplined when working from home. Somehow, putting make-up on and getting dressed puts me into work mode. And I need that when there are so many distractions!

3. I love how you travel the world and share it on Instagram, has this always been a passion of yours?

Aw thank you, I love sharing it too and having a visual online diary! Funnily enough, I never really had an urge to travel, I was a huge homebird and actually the thought of travelling frightened me a little. However when I got a job aged 18 at a travel PR agency in London, my eyes were opened to just how incredible our world is and how many places I did want to explore and see in person. Even now, I feel like blogging pushes me out of my comfort zone and inspires me to say ‘yes’ to things that I might have previously been a little anxious about. I’ve been on alpine extreme sports trips in Austria, undertaken a road trip around the West Coast of America where we camped in the national parks and even been in a doorless helicopter over Manhattan in NYC!

4. What has been your biggest challenge so far with your youtube channel/blog?

I think stayed consistent with everything. There’s a misconception that followers magically rise overnight and suddenly it’s your full time job. It’s very much a gradual thing. I started my blog 7 years ago, didn’t make any money from it for 3 years, so I did it purely as a hobby. But I stayed consistent and still try to do this now, albeit it’s a little more difficult as there’s now a number of platforms to update rather than just the blog, but I still get the same thrill from pressing publish on a blog post as I always have done

5. Who are your favourite bloggers/influencers in the beauty community?

Ooh I have lots. One of my faves is The Londoner. Hers was one of the very first blogs I discovered and she has a real way with words. She’s really developed her own voice and any piece of content is instantly recognisable as hers. I love that! I also have some amazing friends who I’m so proud of who are consistently creating incredible content. Misha Grimes, Laura from Laura’s Little Locket, Hayley from Frock Me I’m Famous, Ellie from The Elle Next Door! They’re all fab girls!

6. What’s your favourite season? Do you change your makeup a little to reflect those seasons?..

I want to say summer, because there’s nothing I love more than not having to bung yourself in a coat before you leave the house, but I love each season for different reasons. I love the cosy, comfort Winter season, the Christmas markets and being able to piece together a really gorgeous all-black combo. But then I love floaty, floral, bright and bold summer dresses. I couldn’t pick a fave but I definitely switch things up depending on the season. Variety is the spice of life and all!

7. How long have you been a blogger/influencer?

7 wonderful years!

8. What are your hobbies/interests outside of your youtube channel/blog?

I don’t actually have many, my blog was my hobby for so many years, so I feel very grateful it’s managed to transition into my job. I do love travel, food and organising network events for other like-minded creatives though

9. What advice would you give to new bloggers/influencers?

Make sure the content you are creating showcases what makes you, YOU! Stay consistent and don’t publish for the sake of it. Make sure what you’re putting out there offers something to those who are taking their time to consume and engage with it. Question – what am I offering here? How do I want the reader/audience to feel?

10. Do you have any goals/aspirations for the future?

Lots! One of the main goals is to write a book. Watch this space!

I want to say a HUGE thank you to Scarlett for letting me interview her. Her blog and other socials are so beautiful, you can watch Scarlett on youtube HERE
